Good morning peeps!  Please excuse me while I have this fan girl moment here! OMG! OMG! OMG! THE freaking Lorelei James is here.  She’s here, she’s here! {Breathing heavily through a sandwich bag}

Ok now where was I? Oh right, so I want to welcome an author who has written some of the best books to feature cowboys IMO! I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her books! Now here is a little bit more info on Lorelei courtesy of her website: When I’m not squirreled away behind my laptop writing fun, sexy,
contemporary erotic romances set in the modern day Wild West, I can be
found reading everything under the sun, practicing yoga until I’m a
pretzel, shootin’ my .22, watching the Professional Bull Riders tour on
Versus, and running a kid’s taxi service, all in the guise of avoiding
housework and rustlin’ up vittles.

Why do I have a particular fondness for all things western? Well,
I’m a fourth generation South Dakotan, living in the Black Hills, which
is chock-full of interesting characters, including cowboys, Indians,
ranchers, and bikers. The geographical diversity of the surrounding area
showcases mountains, plains, and badlands. Living in and writing about
rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I’m not
writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the
ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.
How freaking cool is that? Shootin’ her .22 I love it!  I’m excited to have her here today.  If you haven’t given her a try I suggest you do so!  I highly recommend her McKay series!  Love them.  Anywhoo–sit back and enjoy our little Q&A session.

Welcome Lorelei, to the blog!
Long time fan!  I am just freaking
happy to have you here today.  You are
the queen of hot cowboy stories in my book!
I am very excited about your newest release Saddled and Spurred.  This is the 2nd book in your Blacktop Cowboy
series.  Can you tell the readers who are
not familiar a bit about this book and series?
Lorelei:  Aw, thank you, Ing! The Blacktop Cowboys
series is a little different from the Rough Riders series, in that it follows a
group of friends from the same Wyoming town, rather than a specific family. The
books are still contemporary erotic western romances, but give me a little
leeway with setting the books on the road, or in different parts of Wyoming.
Can you tell us a about the sexy cowboy hero Bran Turner?  What about Bran do you think will draw the
readers in and make them love him?
Lorelei:  Bran is a Wyoming cattleman to the core. He never
wanted to be anything else. But he also feels that might not make him as
interesting as some of his pals, so he is wary when it comes to women. Readers
will love Bran because outwardly he’s all alpha male goodness with a soft,
gooey, romantic center.
Now tell us a bit about the heroine Harper Masterson?  What about Harper do you think will draw the
readers in and make them love her?
Lorelei:  Harper is a hard worker and hasn’t had an easy
life. She’s used to always putting everyone else first and I think a lot of
women can relate to that. Also, because Harper isn’t a typical beauty queen,
she’s proof that there’s so much more to people than outward appearances.
Why are these two perfect for each other?  What about them individually makes them so
drawn to each other?  Why do you think
the readers will fall in love with this couple?
The obvious physical attractiveness draws them together initially, but
it’s their differences that keep them interested in one another. The way Harper
looks at something is not the same way Bran does, so they balance each other,
learn from one another. This story is probably the closest I’ve come to a
“traditional” romance – well, at least until you get to the erotic parts. And
since this is only the second book in the series, most of the book is focused
on the couple – together, individually and with the community surrounding them.
What was a scene that stood out or was memorable for you when writing “Saddled
and Spurred”?  Why did this scene stand
out for you?
Lorelei: The goat scene. And that’s all I can
say without giving a spoiler
Can you tell us a peek at what you have up your sleeve next for this
series?  How many books do you have planned
right now for the Blacktop Cowboys?  What
else can we look forward to from you for the rest of 2011 and possibly 2012?
Could you give some deets on these upcoming projects?
Lorelei:  The next two books in the series are WRANGLED
AND TANGLED, which releases November 1st 2011, and is a dual, yet entwined
storyline – Renner Jackson and Tierney Pratt, and Abe Lawson and Janie
Fitzhugh. Then ONE NIGHT RODEO will release in July 2012, and will be Kyle
Gilchrist’s book. Currently I’m only contracted for those next two books, so
we’ll see what happens after that.
Now on to questions about you.  We
want to know more about Lorelei James.
Who are some auto buy authors that you read now?
Lorelei:  I read a lot of paranormal since that’s one
thing I’m not writing. JD Robb, Kresley Cole, Larissa Ione, Karen Marie Moning.
In the mystery genre, Dennis Lehane, CJ Box and Robert Crais.
What was the first romance book you ever read?  Do you still have the book on your shelf?
Lorelei: The first romance I remember
reading was an excerpt in Good Housekeeping when I was in 6th grade. I never
really read romance until I realized I was writing it, so I had to go back and
catch up. The first two authors that really got me into reading romance again
were Rachel Gibson and Nora Roberts.
Any movies you’ve seen lately that you would recommend? Or TV shows that
you love right now and don’t ever miss?
The last movie I saw in the theater was
TANGLED and I loved it so much, it’s right up there as one of my fave Disney
movies ever. I DVR all the TV shows I love because I don’t have time to sit
through ten billion commercials. Must see for me right now? JUSTIFIED. I love
me some Raylan Givens. I also watch SUPERNATURAL, VAMPIRE DIARIES, WHITE
COLLAR, FRINGE, TRUE BLOOD and just started BEING HUMAN. I’m behind on FRIDAY
NIGHT LIGHTS, but I know the series is ending this year, so I’m waiting to
watch all the episodes in one fell swoop, because it has amazing acting,
storylines and characters. I miss LOST.
If you could be one of your heroine for a day which one would you be and
Lorelei:  Trick question, no fair. All my heroines have strengths and weaknesses,
things I love about them, and things that make me wonder what the hell is wrong
with them. So I have to say, if I could be one of my heroines…I’d be Mercy
Gunderson from my mystery series. I’d love to have her shooting ability for one
I love your cowboys very much.  I
especially love the McKay boys from your Rough Rider series.  Could you ever see yourself writing or doing
books that doesn’t involve a cowboy under your Lorelei James name?
Lorelei:  The first book I wrote for Samhain, DIRTY DEEDS, was a straight
contemporary romance. The second book I wrote for Samhain, RUNNING WITH THE
DEVIL, was an erotic suspense. The third book I wrote for Samhain, LONG HARD
RIDE…really launched my Lorelei James career. So I haven’t really looked back,
because I seem to have found my niche, and I’m writing what I love. And readers
seem to keep coming back for more of the McKays, so I want to finish out their
story arcs, which will keep me busy through 2013. The Wild West Boys series is
on hold for now, but that series is more straight contemporary than western,
and I hope to get back to it after I’ve finished what I’ve already got on my
You write mysteries under the pen name of Lori Armstrong and you write
sexy contemporary cowboys under Lorelei James.
First how the heck do you keep it all straight…lol?  Which do you enjoy more writing as?  Could you see yourself writing any other
genre other then mystery or contemporary?
Some days I have an identity crisis—kidding. I’d like to say I work on
one project at a time and see it through until the end, and then get to the
next project, but it seems I’m switching back and forth between multiple
projects. Being too busy is a good problem to have! Writing mystery is a
different mindset, as I write those in first person, whereas the erotic
romances are written in third person from multiple view points. I love writing
both, working in two genres stretches my writing muscles. And at this point, I
can’t think of writing anything beyond what I’m contracted for!
If you weren’t writing what else would you be doing right now for a career?
Lorelei:  I honestly don’t know. I am thankful every day
that I have my dream career and I don’t take that for granted.
Lorelei thanks so much for stopping by today!  I really appreciate you answering all these
questions.  I can’t even begin to tell
you how much I love your cowboys.  I wish
you continued success and hope you’ll never stop writing about these sexy
cowboys!   Do you have any last words or
questions you would like to pose to the readers of this blog?
Lorelei:  No, thank you Ing, for hosting me. I just
wanna give a shout out to my awesome readers! I wouldn’t be where I am, writing
about these sexy cowboys, if not for you all wanting to hear all the stories I
have bouncing around in my head!
So are you guys interested?  If you can’t tell I love Lorelei and her books.  These books have been approved by Ing Cruz…lol!  Anyway I hope those that have never read her will run out and give her a try. Book 2 of A Blacktop Cowboys series
Cover Blurb:
Cattleman Bran Turner is left shorthanded during busy calving season
when a bull tramples his hired hand. Rural Wyoming isn’t exactly a
hotbed of qualified candidates, and the only applicant for the position
is the pampered town beauty, Harper Masterson. The curvy cowgirl gets
under Bran’s skin at every turn, but with no other options, he
reluctantly hires her.

When sexual sparks ignite, down-on-her-luck Harper enjoys
convincing Bran that not only is she capable of pulling calves, feeding
live-stock, and handling backbreaking ranch chores, but she doesn’t mind
getting down and dirty, either. Harper also discovers the hotbodied
cowboy isn’t all work and no horseplay…and he’s got more than a few
tricks up his sleeve.
Bran will learn quickly that Harper is no country mouse—and that she
might just have what it takes to stick around for the long haul.

Book 1 of A Blacktop Cowboys series

Cover Blurb:
Sports therapist Lainie Capshaw has been rehabilitating injured
cowboys long enough to know that a charming western drawl combined with a
fine physical form doesn’t mean you fall for the man.
So no one is more surprised than Lainie when she finds herself
involved with not one, but two different men: Hank Lawson, a
bullfighter, and Kyle Gilchrist, a bull rider. Lainie feels guilty about
her two-timing, but it doesn’t keep her from doubling her fun-that is
until Hank catches her with Kyle.

She’s shocked that Hank isn’t mad. But she’s more shocked to learn
Hank and Kyle are hometown buddies. But when the men offer to share
her-in every way-she knows that she’s going to have to choose the one
man who can give her the ride of her life.

I was shocked to read that Harper is a beauty queen, by the way I love her name. Would love to share this with my book club at the library.

  9. I love Lorelei and I can’t wait to read saddled and spurred. I guess what intrigued me most was Bran and I just love that name.

Thanks for that great interview with my fave author! She’s the best in cowboy stories…good combo of the Western life and heart-stopping romance. And if you can’t tell, I love me some cowboys, too! 🙂

Just one look at that cover would intrigue anyone with Saddled and Spurred! But knowing that it’s written by Lorelie James, that would be the best reason to read this book.

  12. I have never read any of Lorelei James books but I’ve so wanted to having read lots of great things.

This one well why wouldn’t I want to read it? Sex and cowboys pretty sure that’s my favorite happy place.
Hell yes to cowboys if someone asked me my type of guy that’s who I’d point to.

My question for Lorelei – Not having read any of your books before which one would you recommend I start with?

  13. I read a lot of Historical romance and Highlander books but I love a good Alpha cowboy story. I love the intensity between Bran and Harper and can’t wait to see how they progress. 14. Great interview Ing! I recently became a fan of Lorelei James b/c my friends on goodreads wouldn’t stop talking about the Rough Riders series. I decided to take a look and fell in love.

I generally didn’t like western/cowboy themed books until I was introduced to Lorelei’s work.

I love how the heroine sounds so giving to others. It seems that I’m always putting others needs ahead of mine. I’d like to see how she handles doing that.

  15. I just gotta say – definitely loved the goat scene. This book should come with a warning label (like the surgeon generals) reading this book at school can lead to laughing out loud and curious stares from students…lol.

  16. Saddled And Spurred intrigues me because I enjoy reading Lorelei’s work and am looking forward to reading all of her work. Absolutely, I love reading about cowboys and getting a glimpse into their lives.

  18. Hello! I loved this book. The goats were so funny. I even looked them up to show my kids. Well, the 1st question is moot as I already love the book. And yes, I do like cowboys in my stories but more important to me is good quality writing with strong characters and plotlines. I would love to win this book. I would give it to my niece so I can get her hooked 🙂

  19. Lorelei is a new-to-me author. But I love finding new authors and cowboys is my favorite kind of hero.

  22. Saddled and Spurred: Best Romance Book Ever! And Lorelei is right about the goat scene – describing it would be a fatal spoiler and it’s loads more fun just to read it.

You had me sold at Alpha Male with a Soft, gooey romantic center. 🙂

  24. Linda s

Lorelei rocks! I have read all of her books and can’t wait for the next. I just received Saddle and Spurred in the mail Monday. Finished it Tuesday. Craving more. That is the kind of author Lorelei is, after reading one of her books you want to read more. I have had the pleasure of meeting her in person and I want to let those know who haven’t meet her yet, what a down to earth real person she is.

  25. Oh L, I do love it when you do these interviews! I really think you are the top Cowgirl author out there! Nothing hotter than your down and dirty cowboys!
Yes, I LOVE a good cowboy story! They are just soooo darn hot! If L’s writing it, you are guaranteed to fall in love with the characters! (Well, love them, hate them, want one of your own-all contained in one lil ole book. LOL) Why does Saddled & Spurred intrigue me…it’s pretty simple for me really-L has a way with characters and a series. Once you start, you just can’t stop. You wanna know “the rest of the story”. LOL

  26. Hi

I am looking forward to Saddled and Spurred – I love the fact the heroine is tough yet still an intriguing female. I am in the middle of reading the Rough and Rider series (#6 I think) and I love them. I have always had a thing for cowboy stories and have been reading historical western romances since I was a teenager.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

  27. After reading the Q&A why does Saddled and Spurred intrigue you?
Yes I can’t wait to read it!
Do you like reading stories with cowboys?
I love reading stories with cowboys!

  28. Miss James is the best romantic author out there today. Her books are a joy to read and I have yet to find one where I don’t read it all at once. Usually through the night and end up not sleeping because I can’t put her books down. I’ve also reread her books countless times. I find her style unique in that she focuses not only on the characters but has just the right amount of emotion that continually keeps the reader intrigued and enthralled. I love nothing better than reading about hot tough cowboys and Bran typifies this to a “T.”

  29. Thanks for the giveaway. I so want this book. It is now I my wishlist. I not only love cowboys, but I love that the town beauty does a “man’s” job.

  30. Great interview – thanks ladies!

I was intrigued by Saddled and Spurred long before reading the Q&A. Heck, just looking at the cover is ‘intriguing’! ;-D I am a huge fan of Western romance – contemporary, historical, erotic – love all of it! I have read Long Hard Ride. Fabulous! Haven’t had a chance to read the rest of the RR series but hope to do so in the near future. In the meantime, sure would be nice to win a copy of Saddled and Spurred! Love me them cowboys!!

  31. I love Lorelei’s Rough Rider series! They are all such great books! I had no chance to try one of the Blacktop Cowboys yet but they are on my list for sure. 🙂
To be honest, I don’t really read any other books with cowboys in it, just the occasional historical western from time to time. At first, I hesitated trying one of these books because all this cowboy stuff seemed a bit outlandish to me and I was afraid I might not get the whole meaning (English isn’t my native language). But boy am I glad I gave them a chance! 🙂

My review blog: Escape by Fiction

I’m normally a paranormal reader, but I stepped out of my genre for Lorelei James, starting with the Rough Riders series and now onto the Blacktop Cowboys series – I love it. It’s already in my TBR pile and after reading this, I think I’ll have to bump it up to somewhere around the top. I’ve read other cowboy books, but I definitely think Lorelei’s is the best. Good reading!!

  33. Ivy

I have all the RR’s & I read Corralled. Looking forward to Harper’s story. I didn’t really read cowboys until Lorelei & Carole Brown..now I’m a huge cowboy fan!
    Thanks for the chance.

  34. With all those historical romances out there it is refreshing to find a book that dips into a different genre like western! Would love to read AND of course win this book!

  35. I would LOVE to win a copy of this book! The more I read about it on various sites, the more interested I get. The characters sound really great and I would love to see what happens with Bran and Harper.
