Thanks to the wonderful Crystal from Reading Between the Wine Book Club for introducing me to Vonda and sending her my way.

Vonda was kind enough to answer some questions here at ATPT today. She is also offering one lucky reader of the blog a chance to win an e-book copy of My Fierce Highlander.  So be sure to stick around til the end of our little Q&A session for the rules and details.  Now on to the Q&A session. Enjoy!

Ing: Welcome Vonda, to the blog! We are here to pimp out My Fierce Highlander which is the first book in your Highlander series. Can you tell the readers in your own word a bit about the book and what they can expect plot, sexiness, length wise.

Vonda: Thanks so much for allowing me to be here on your fantastic blog! My Fierce Highlander is a full length novel of 91,000 words. I feel it’s a very romantic, sensual, emotional story with lots of action and adventure. A few readers have let me know they feel the plot is a page-turner and that the love scenes are steamy. 😉 Here is the blurb:

Gwyneth Carswell, an English lady banished by her father to the harsh Scottish Highlands, wants nothing more than to take her young son away from the violence of two fighting clans–her own distant kin, the MacIrwins, and their enemies, the MacGraths. She risks everything to rescue the fierce MacGrath warrior from the battlefield where he’s left for dead by her clan. She only knows she is inexplicably drawn to him and he wants peace as she does. When her clan learns of her betrayal, they seek vengeance. Dare she trust the enemy more than her own family?

Laird Alasdair MacGrath is driven to end two-hundred years of feuding with the MacIrwins. But by taking in and protecting Lady Gwyneth and her son, he provokes more attacks from his mortal enemy. As the danger and conflict surrounding them escalate, Alasdair and Gwyneth discover an explosive passion neither of them expected. With the arrival of a powerful man from her past, a horrible decision confronts her–give up her son or the man she loves.

Ing: Can you tell us a about the sexy Alasdair MacGrath? What about Alasdair do you think will draw the readers in and make them love him?

Vonda: Alasdair is like the man most women want to marry. Not only does he wear a kilt and speak with a delicious Scottish accent, he’s gorgeous, hot, muscular, and a confident leader. He’s skilled (and passionate) on the battlefield and in the bedchamber. He’s fearless and intelligent. And he’s great with children. He is an incredibly strong man, but he is also compassionate and cares about those around him. I love it when a strong man can be tender.

Ing: Now tell us a bit about the heroine Gwyneth Carswell? What about Gwyneth do you think will draw the readers in and make them love her?

Vonda: Gwyneth is a resourceful survivor, a devoted mother, and a caring healer. Basically, everything she does is for the sake of her son and giving him a better life. Though she was raised as a lady, she has lost almost everything. She is trying to educate her son and keep him safe in a harsh, violent environment. Based on everything she’s witnessed and experienced in her life, she doesn’t believe true love exists… at least it doesn’t exist for her.

Ing: Why are these two perfect for each other? What about them individually makes them so drawn to each other? Why do you think the readers will fall in love with this couple?

Vonda: Gwyneth believes that her greatest downfall is that she is drawn, against her better judgment, to sensual pleasure. And from the moment she first sees Alasdair, she knows he will be an irresistible temptation to her. Both are strong people in their own way, despite their flaws or vulnerabilities. They’ve both experienced pain in their past and are trying to heal. Gwyneth sees that Alasdair supports her and underscores her own strength. He wants to hold a mirror up to her so she will see how amazing she is. He admires and appreciates everything about her. He loves that she is a wonderful mother and hopes she will one day be the mother of his children. But lots of things stand in their way.

Ing: What was a scene that stood out or was memorable for you when writing My Fierce Highlander? Why did this scene stand out for you?

Vonda: A lot of intense, suspenseful or action-packed scenes stand out for me, but one of my favorites for its sheer sensuality is the first love scene… or the second love scene. I like to build up the sexual tension to a high level beforehand. I love blending elements to create hot, romantic, sensual scenes.

Ing:
What is a character that you are getting lots of e-mails about? Any plans to write a story for this character?

Vonda: Yes, people have emailed me or mentioned in reviews they want to read Lachlan’s story. It is out now (My Wild Highlander.) Lachlan is Alasdair’s charming, rakish younger brother. After reading Lachlan’s story, people ask me if I’m going to write his friend Dirk’s story. The answer is yes, I’m writing it now. 😉

Ing:
How many books do you have planned right now for this Highlander series? What else can we look forward to from you for the rest of 2011 and possibly 2012? Could you give some details on these upcoming projects?

Vonda:
I’m writing Dirk’s story now. He’s a Highlander from the Durness area of northern Scotland. Despite the harsh weather, it’s an area I love for its wonderful atmosphere and beautiful scenery. After this story, I’d love to write Rebbie’s story. Rebbie is a friend of Dirk and Lachlan.

Ing: Now on to questions about you. We want to know more about Vonda Sinclair. What are some of your auto buy authors that you read now?

Vonda: I love reading but since I started writing, I get less time to read. I do have several favorite authors. They include: Laura Kinsale, Terry Spear, Karen Marie Moning, Julianne MacLean, Sue-Ellen Welfonder and many others.

Ing:
What was the first romance book you ever read? Do you still have the book on your shelf?

Vonda: As a teen, I read a few romances, but I didn’t really get hooked until I read The Hellion by LaVyrle Spencer. I remember it being a very emotional story. I think I may still have a copy of it on my keeper shelf.

Ing: What was the best advice that you ever got from anyone in the writing industry that has stuck with you?

Vonda: Be persistent. This is a tough business and no matter how many rejections you get, don’t give up if this is your dream. Another great bit of advice is to write what you love.

Ing: If you could be one of your heroine for a day which one would you be and why?

Vonda: Being either Gwyneth or Angelique (the heroine of My Wild Highlander) for a day would be an experience to write home about, I’m sure! I suppose it would depend on whether Alasdair or Lachlan is your favorite hero. Alasdair is fierce, passionate and responsible. Lachlan is charming, playful and… irresponsible. Either way, I’d be in Scotland with a kilted hottie. LOL

Ing: Ok I was browsing your site and can I just say how jealous I am that you’ve been to Scotland. That’s one of the countries that I really, really, really want to visit. What about Scotland and those fierce highlanders do you think make this such a great setting and subject for romance novels? Either from your book or fellow authors who is your favorite highlander hero? Why?

Vonda: Scotland is amazing! I hope you’ll get to visit soon, especially since you have a keen interest in it. Scotland has some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery in the world. Is there a more romantic view than Eilean Donan Castle, situated at the joining of lochs with the mountains in the background? I think that’s part of the appeal of the Highland historical romance. A lot of us want to fantasize about living in this beautiful and exciting setting with history going on around us. The wonderful thing about writing Highland historical romance is being able to watch the characters, especially the sexy, kilt-wearing hero, leap off the page. In my opinion, the best Highland heroes are alpha males, usually chiefs, who lead their clan. They are fearsome, highly trained warriors, but they don’t relish war. And the stories have heart as well as heat.

Ing: If you weren’t writing what else would you be doing right now for a career?

Vonda: I might be a counselor or therapist since that is part of my background. Or maybe an English teacher. Or a photographer.

Ing:
Vonda thanks so much for stopping by today! I really appreciate you answering all these questions. Do you have any last words or questions you would like to pose to the readers of this blog?

Vonda: Thanks so much for allowing me to visit your blog today! I’ve enjoyed it so much! A question for readers: Do you enjoy Highland historical romance and if so why? What is your favorite part about it?

I absolutely love a Highlander romance! There is something about a muscular man in a kilt with thick Scottish accent! Men in kilts make the best alpha heros, in my opinion! I’d love the chance to read this book!
