Ing: Hey Melissa!  Welcome to ATPT! Can you tell the readers a little bit about Jade’s Peace? What can they expect plot, pace, sex, etc from this book?

Melissa: Jade has some issues, but she’s to a point that she’s ready to work through them and she goes in search of the only potential mate she’s ever met, her brother’s best friend. The man who left town when she was a kid, then again when she was a teenager to keep from doing something he knew was wrong. Now, they’re both adults and she’s determined to see if they can make it work, and if she can get past her own troubles.

It starts out pretty quickly, you see how she comes into a town she’s never been to before and with in five minutes of seeing Steve for the first time in ten years, she leaps on him and kisses him. There’s a few steamy scenes, it’s not something I’d let my teenager read, but it’s (I think) a good story.

Ing: Can you tell us about the hero, Steve? What about Steve, do you think will capture the reader’s heart and make them love him?

Melissa: Well, first off, he’s hotter than hell. Wink  But other than that, he has a tendency to take care of those around him. He’s the clan Shaku, that’s the head enforcer or head of security, and it’s his job to make sure the clan leaders are safe, he takes his job seriously. At the same time, once he finds that Jade has some things she needs to deal with he takes care of her and helps her with what she has to do.

Ing: Now tell us a bit about the heroine, Jade? What about Jade, do you think will draw the readers in and make them love her?

Melissa: She’s strong. She’s been through a lot and still, after ten years goes after the man she believes could be her mate. She has no trouble standing up for herself and doing what needs to be done.

Ing: Why are they perfect for each other? What about them individually makes them so drawn to each other? Why do you think the readers will fall in love with these two?

Melissa: Part if is is the mating instinct that they feel as shifters. While it’s not perfect, it’s a draw between two people who could be compatible and mates, it makes them protective of each other and drawn to one another. They’re different, but at the same time, Steve and Jade are a lot alike, while sometimes it makes things hard, sometimes it works out too.

Ing: What was a scene that stood out or was memorable for you when writing Jade’s Peace? Why did this scene stand out for you?

Melissa: There were several scenes that were very hard for me to write, so they stand out, but I can’t tell you about those without giving away too much of the story. One I can tell you about is about midway through the book, Jade helps an old man who’s hurt, she heals him after an injury. This particular scene stands out for me because the old man is modeled after an older friend of mine, he passed away several years ago and I had been missing him a lot recently, my solution was to write him into my story so I could visit with him a while, if only in my mind.

Ing: I like hearing the back story about how a book or series came about. Can you tell me where the idea for Jade’s Peace came from? Is this book going to be part of a series or is it strictly a stand alone?

Melissa: I started Jades Peace with a short novel in mind, maybe 150 pages, I wanted to tell Steve’s story, as he’s a supporting character in my short story Escape.  I came up with Jade and started writing, but soon she informed me that this wasn’t a short story, and it wasn’t the steamy story I had originally envisioned (yes, there is some steam, but not like Escape.) This is the first full length novel in my WMC (White Mountain Chanat) series. There will be more to come.

Ing: Can you tell us what else we can look forward to from you? Could you give us the 411 on these upcoming projects?

Melissa: I’m currently working on three projects, one is a sequel to Jade’s Peace, and while I can’t tell you much, I can tell you that we meet both parties of that couple in this book. Another is the fourth book in my Kitsune series, not sure when that will be out, Nickie isn’t doing a lot of talking right now. The third is a contemporary romance, similar to my Robin’s Nest.

Ing: Now on to questions about you.  We want to know more about Melissa. Who are some auto buy authors that you read now?

Melissa: That list is way too long give a complete list but I buy all Dean Koontz books, in hard cover, I collect them. I’ve been reading his books since I was 9.  I also collect hard covers of Laurell K Hamilton, I got hooked on Anita Blake years ago. Lora Leigh, Laurann Dohner, Lorelei  James, Jennifer Ashley. I just realized how many L names there is there, I swear I read other authors whose names start with other letters!

Ing: If you could be a heroine of any book for one day who would you be and why?

Melissa: No contest. I wanna be Anita Blake. First, she kicks ass. I so want a spine sheath and wrist knives… Second, she gets to go home to Nathaniel, ok, Micah too, but mostly Nathaniel.

Ing: If you could hang out for a day with one author who would it be and why?

Melissa: Laurell K Hamilton….so she can help me realize my dream of becoming Anita Blake.

Ing: Melissa, thanks so much for stopping by today! I really appreciate you answering all these questions. Do you have any last words or questions you would like to pose to the readers of this blog?

Melissa: Always be yourself… unless you can be a unicorn, then be a unicorn.

*About Melissa*

Melissa was born and raised in Arizona, she’s spent her entire life living across the southern half of the state. She’s found that, along with her husband and three children, she prefers the small towns and rural life to feeling packed into a city.

She started reading at a very young age, and her love for series started early, as the first real books she remembers reading is the Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Through the years she’s found that there’s little she won’t read, and her tastes vary from westerns, to romance, to sci-fi / fantasy and Horror.
