Mollie Malone’s mom skipped out on her. Her biker dad, always loose and easy with the law, still was able to make her feel loved, and to keep her safe. But thirteen years ago, when his luck finally ran out and he landed in prison, Mollie found herself a new family – a group of friends in the sleepy little college town of Cavanagh, Tennessee, where now they all attend the local university. These girls know about the rotten roots of her family tree but accept her anyway, and the bond between them is so strong and supportive that Mollie is finally able to see past graduation to a future that is bright and secure.
But sometimes the past doesn’t stay buried.
Suddenly, inexplicably, there’s a shadow behind every step Mollie takes. Someone is lurking in that shadow, threatening not only Mollie, but also the new family she has claimed for herself.
And it isn’t just the past that has Mollie’s life in upheaval. Hunky former Marine Vaughn Winchester – who Mollie really would like to get to know much better – thinks Mollie is just a kid; he’s made it clear she wouldn’t ever be able to understand the demons haunting him. But if that’s what he believes, then why does he keep sticking his nose in her business? And if he thinks she’s such a kid, why does he keep trying to kiss her?
Vaughn’s mind games are frustrating, especially since Mollie knows enough about secrets to be convinced that there’s something he isn’t telling her, something he’s so far been able to keep hidden. But when that secret is revealed, Mollie is forced into a situation that tests her loyalty and threatens even her closest friendships – just when the shadow of her past returns, and she’s going to need them the most.

We met Mollie Malone in book 1, Chasing Serenity. Mollie was one of the lovable friends who won my heart in book 1 and I could not wait for her story. Mollie meets Vaughn Winchester in Chasing Serenity and instantly feels that “spark”. The kind of spark, that screamed right away that this man was “hers”. This was a little peek that Eden gave us in Chasing Serenity of what we had to look forward to for Mollie and Vaughn’s book. I was definitely intrigued by the quiet & stoic ex-Marine, who caught the eye of Mollie. I couldn’t wait to see how things play out.
Finding Serenity picks up months after Chasing Serenity. Mollie hasn’t seen or heard from Vaughn since his mini rescue of her during book 1. Mollie thought there was a connection and that Vaughn felt it too, but if his radio silence is anything to go by, the feeling was not mutual. Mollie decides to find out and makes an impromptu visit to Vaughn’s gym, that he owns. Mollie ends up leaving that visit discouraged and any hope of things happening between her and Vaughn was dashed away. Vaughn pretty much made Mollie feel as if she was a kid bothering him. On top of that stellar encounter, Mollie comes home to someone robbing her. Her equipment, for her DJing job has been stolen and in the process the robbers knock her out.
While investigating about her stolen equipment Mollie runs into Vaughn again. This Vaughn is giving Mollie a different message. This Vaughn is flirting with her. Mollie is so confused by Vaughn’s attitude and his nosing into her stolen equipment business that she throws him some attitude. Mollie not’s sure what is going on with her life or Vaughn but she needs to find her serenity again, that’s for sure.
I’m going to talk about Mollie first. I really adore Mollie. Her take charge attitude worked for me. I liked how she handled Vaughn. She backed off when she thought that was best and then she’d push when he needed a little coaxing. She was a little mini spitfire and it worked. Eden did her character justice. It didn’t come off annoying. Spitfires done wrong can come off annoying and bitchy, instead of strong. Mollie came off adorable, strong and fiercely loyal. I liked how she treated Vaughn’s past and his hang ups with kid glove. She listened and she gave him what he needed, even when he didn’t know he needed it. I would totally want to be Mollie’s friend.
Vaughn! Sigh. That’s a happy sigh. 🙂 Declan is still my favorite of Eden’s heroes but Vaughn definitely gave Declan a run for his money. If Vaughn had an Irish accent oh boy he might have been neck and neck with Declan for my heart. I wanted to hug Vaughn and do nasty things to him. That guy…whew! When his past is reveal I’m not gonna lie I shed a little tear for him. With his history I get why someone like Mollie scared him but I still wanted to smack sense into him when he kept going back and forth with how to handle is feelings for Mollie.
Eden upped the hot factor in Finding Serenity up a notch. There was definitely some fan yourself moments, mixed in with lots of poignant and sweet moments between Mollie and Vaughn. I want more sexy times but was happy this one had more then book one. Let’s hope book three delivers. This book was definitely a different tone from Chasing Serenity. This one has some suspense and intrigue. I liked it and thought all of those elements blended in very well to the fabric of the story.
I enjoyed catching up with the gang. I especially enjoyed all the antics between Layla and Donovan. The pranks those two were pulling was hilarious. I hope they do get locked in the closet together. I can’t wait to see what Eden has in store for them. The secondary characters definitely added to the book. I love the relationship between the girls plus Declan. I like reading how Declan is now their unofficial bodyguard. Love that boy.
A great addition to the Seeking Serenity series. I can’t wait for more books in this series. The folks of Cavanaugh, TN has a special place in this readers heart.
Finding Serenity – Excerpts
“Right. Enough of the G.I. Joe bullshit.” She looks at Declan, then to Donovan. “Take him down, boys.” And in an instant, both men have wrestled Vaughn to the ground flat on his back. He begins to fight them, to get their hands and arms away from him, but the pain must strike him fast; his winces and low curses tell Mollie that the pain is cresting.
When she straddles his waist, Vaughn’s protests slow to mild complaints. Around them, the players back off, giving Mollie room to work.
“Fine.” His voice is nothing more than a growl, “but if you’re going to do this be sure you get your knee in…”
“Hey, Semper Fi, shut it.” Mollie’s bare legs move along his ribs, dragging his shirt with them so that her smooth skin slides against his body. She rests her hands on the ground around his head, hovering just above him. There’s a small blink of time where she catches Vaughn’s eyes and they stare at each other, their breaths heating between their open mouths. “I know what I’m doing so can the instructions.” Vaughn wets his lips, eyes drifting down to her chest which is only millimeters from his mouth before he focuses back at her face. “This isn’t my first time.”
Despite the pain and the awkward tension building in front of their small audience, Vaughn manages a smile. “Well, will you be gentle?”
“No.” Mollie climbs onto Vaughn’s chest, lifting her knee just below the dislocated shoulder. Before she pushes her leg up, she leans down, catching a whiff of his sweat-slick skin to whisper just above his mouth. “Baby, I’m always good, but I ain’t never gentle.”
Eden Butler is an editor and writer of New Adult Romance and SciFi and Fantasy novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum. Her debut novel, a New Adult, Contemporary (no cliffie) Romance, “Chasing Serenity” launched in October 2013 and quickly became an Amazon bestseller.
When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.
She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.
